Amid the glitz and glamour of the red carpet at Tuesday’s Emmys, you’d be forgiven for missing the goblin in the room.
Users have taken to social media questioning the recurrent background presence of someone in an elaborate green demon outfit at the Peacock Theatre in downtown LA.
And here, the mysterious goblin can be seen tailing multi-Emmy-winning actress Claire Danes.
While, shockingly, the goblin went unnoticed on the red carpet and TV broadcast, Entertainment Weekly reports the ghastly guest was RuPaul’s Drag Race season 15 contestant Princess Poppy.
“I wanted to do the exact opposite of what is expected of you when you go to an event like this. I wanted to take decorum and turn it on its head,” Poppy told the publication.
“Mainly I wanted to be a troll-slash-hag. I wanted to be so shocking that you just have to turn and look at me — in the worst way possible.”
Elsewhere among the fashion talking points were The White Lotus star Aubrey Plaza, who wore a dress with a giant pin in it, and Selena Gomez, who hit the red carpet in a sheer cut-out gown.
As for the awards, Succession dominated TV’s night of nights yet again in the coveted drama categories, winning every award it was nominated for during the broadcast, including the big gong of the night, Outstanding Drama Series, as well as writing and directing nods.
Australian actress Sarah Snook won her first Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress, following up her victories at the Golden Globes and Critics Choice Awards, while co-stars Kieran Culkin and Matthew MacFadyen picked up Outstanding Actor and Outstanding Supporting Actor, respectively.
Meanwhile, The Bear picked up six gongs – for stars Jeremy Allen White, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Ayo Edebiri, as well as Outstanding Comedy Series.
