Singer Nolan Neal, who competed on both “America’s Got Talent” and “The Voice,” has died at age 41, Page Six can confirm.
The medical examiner’s office in Nashville told us the crooner passed away in Music City on Monday, but a cause of death was not disclosed.
TMZ was first to report the news of Neal’s death.
A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department also confirmed to Page Six that cops received a call of a “deceased person” at approximately 8:17 p.m. local time July 18, who was later identified as Nolan Neal Seals.
“Mr. Seals was located in the bedroom of the downstairs apartment by the upstairs roommate,” the public information officer added.
“The roommate stated she discovered the victim after receiving a phone call from the victim’s mother who was concerned after not hearing from him.”
According to police, the unnamed roommate said she last saw Seals alive around 4 or 5 p.m. Sunday.
“On the desk next to the bed was a black guitar pick that appeared to contain a powder residue,” the officer added. “The victim reportedly struggled with substance abuse.”
The medical coroner’s office told Page Six it can take a minimum of eight weeks for an official autopsy report to come in.
The public information officer said narcotics detectives joined other detectives from the police department at the scene and are assisting in the investigation.
Seals previously opened up about about his history with substance abuse in an interview with a local Nashville NBC news program.
“I remember I got clean in 2010; May 15, went to rehab. Stayed clean,” he told WBIR in July 2020. “I joined the rock band Hinder, they were all about drinking and partying.”
Seals said his drinking habits were “not” the band’s fault, because he had made the decision to “drink like a normal person” on his own.
“I remember trying to be normal and fitting in,” he added. “I remember going to a bar and ordering a drink. I tried to hide it. I remember pretending to be normal. I was just lying to myself telling myself that I could control it.”
After leaving Hinder, Seals tried out for “The Voice,” but did not make it the first time, according to WBIR. However, he tried out a second time under the name Nolan Neal for Season 10 and made it to the knockout rounds of the singing competition show.
Seals then auditioned for Season 15 of “America’s Got Talent” in 2020, where he performed an original song called “Lost” and got a standing ovation from the crowd and all of the judges.
Reps at NBC, the network behind both “AGT” and “The Voice,” did not immediately return Page Six’s request for comment on Seals’ death.
